Generally speaking, you cannot avoid probate in Singapore.
But some assets such as Central Provident Fund (“CPF”) monies, insurance with nominations, jointly owned properties (eg. joint tenancy flats, joint bank accounts, etc.) do not need a Grant to be distributed.
You can consider applying to the Public Trustee to administer the estate if the assets' value are less than SGD$50,000. If the Public Trustee agrees to administer the estate, a Grant is not needed.
People often underestimate the difficulties of applying for a Grant of Probate or Grant of Letters of Administration. Lawyers specializing in wills and probate can advise you on the dos and don’ts to avoid disputes, help you when problem arises, and potentially reduce extra costs arising from mistakes.
